The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of caregiving expectation and support of adult children on the type of property inheritance preference of the rural elderly. This study was conducted on 397 adults aged 60 years or older in rural South and North Jeolla Province, using an interview survey. Property inheritance preferences were divided into ¡®traditional¡¯, ¡®equal¡¯, ¡®preparation for later life¡¯, and ¡®social contribution¡¯ type. The results were as follows: First, a type of preparation for later life was the highest, followed by traditional, equal, and social contribution types. Second, the mean of caregiving expectation was 2.35 out of 4 but support of adult children was 3.31 out of 5. Third, as a result of examining sociodemographic characteristics, caregiving expectation and support of adult children according to the type of property inheritance preference, preparation for later life was the highest at 30 percent, which means the lower caregiving expectation, the higher the rate of agreeing to a type of preparation for later life. Meanwhile, support of adult children on ¡®traditional¡¯ type, educational level on ¡®equal¡¯ type , gender on ¡®social contribution¡¯ showed a statistical significance. Based on the results, implications of social welfare policy and practice were discussed.
