Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of the working experience of middle managers who play a key role for effective organizational operation and management of nursing homes. Middle managers of nursing homes are in charge of the overall operation, manage staff and resources, supervise, coordinate and evaluate care services, and communicate and link closely from the head of the nursing homes to the direct service providers. Nevertheless, there is very little interest in the job experiences of middle managers of nursing homes. The participants of this case study were 8 middle managers of nursing homes, which were extracted, by purposive sampling, from 24 middle managers who expressed their intention to participate among 837 nursing homes nationwide. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews using the video program Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic situation from May to July 2021, and was analyzed using direct interpretation and categorical aggregation methods suggested by Stake(1995). As a result of the study, 20 sub-categories, 9 super-categories, and 4 core themes were derived in relation to the core role of middle managers. ‘Creating one team as a link between the facility manager and employees’, ‘Acting as the main communication channel for residents and their family’, ‘Balance in value conflict’, and ‘responding flexibly to changes in the system and environment . Based on the results, this study offered practical and policy implications for supporting middle managers of nursing homes.
This study examined whether the association between ability to use text message or Social Network Service (SNS) and psychological well-being among older adults might be mediated by frequency of contact with adult children or friends and neighbors and whether the mediating effects of contact frequency might be moderated by household composition (living alone vs. living with a spouse). Data were drawn from the National Survey of Older Koreans 2017. The analytic sample consisted of 6,264 older adults 65+ who were either living alone or living with a spouse and had at least one non-coresident adult child at the time of survey. For analyses, mediation and moderated mediation analyses were conducted using SPSS Process Macro. Results indicated that older adults more skilled at exchanging text messages or using SNS reported more frequent contact with adult children as well as friends and neighbors via phone calls, email, or letter, and reported higher levels of life satisfaction and lower levels of depressive symptoms. No difference was found in the mediating effect of contact via calls/e-mails/letters between older adults living alone and older adults living with a spouse. Face-to-face contact with adult children had no mediating effect among older adults; yet the mediating effect of face-to-face contact with friends and neighbors was found to differ by household composition. For older adults living with a spouse, the ability to use text message or SNS was associated with higher levels of life satisfaction and lower levels of depressive symptoms via more frequent visits with friends and neighbors. Yet, the same mediating effect of in-person contact was not found among older adults living alone. Overall, our findings point to the importance of digital literacy education to enhance psychological well-being for older adults living alone because, compared to older adults living with a spouse, they are less skilled at using text message or SNS and had less frequent indirect contact with family, friends, and neighbors.
This study has aims to investigate how South Korean senior consumers’ needs show its effects on brand attitudes and purchase intentions by perceiving cognitive age, time perception and emotion regulation of socioemotional selectivity theory. To accomplish this goal, the newly formed 7 needs, which were based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, were used to analyze the effects toward the brand attitudes and the purchase intentions with 342 Korean senior consumers (50-75 years old). This study tried to examine what kinds of needs are stimulated, and how these stimulated needs affect the brand attitudes and the purchase intentions of the senior consumers regarding cognitive age, time perception and emotion regulation. The results revealed that the new senior generation in Korea, which shows stable economic power and high education level, enjoys leisure and tries to satisfy cognitive and aesthetic needs in their lives. Moreover, these seniors enjoy their leisure life feeling younger with positive minds and tend to think they have got enough time in their lives. Therefore, practitioners firstly should seek ways to enhance ‘ratio of price to satisfaction’ in order to satisfy the needs of senior consumers. Secondly, they should also conceive a new marketing strategy to entice ‘placebo consumption’.

Abstract
This study aims to figure out the meaning of social integration by understanding the social adaptation experiences of middle and old aged North Korean refugees residing in South Korea. We conducted in-depth interviews with 12 North Korean refugees who entered the South Korea at least 50-year-old, and analyzed the collected data using Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach. The results were derived with 3 categories, which are <the Early Stages of Adaptation>, <the Adaptation and Integration>, and <the Meaning and Wishes of the Old Life>. Seven top-topics, and twenty-three sub-topics were also derived. Participants had a positive first impression of the South Korean society, whereas they faced double trouble as an old refugee, alongside economical, psychological, and socio-cultural difficulties. As time goes by, they started to adapt to South Korean society with their desperate effort and supports from their family, acquaintances, and public resources. Furthermore, they contributed to South Korean society by volunteering and donating being integrated into their new home. Beyond a settlement in South Korea, they are greatly looking forward to reunification of their families in the near future as well as praying for successful life of their children. Based on study results, social services and policies were suggested for enhancing their adaptations.

Abstract
This study is aimed at integrating various existing solitary cause data in solving the problem of solitary death of older adults living alone and establishing systematic structured solitary death indicators to build a foundation for data on the background of subsequent solitary death. For this, first, we examined the Law on the Prevention and Management of Solitary Death. Second, we collected the data (journals, press releases, newspapers and internet, YouTube, organizer of relics interviews, life manager case management, police department s statement report, and research data on the causes of Solitary Death in Japan). Third, as a data categorization phase, we categorized the total number of factor data into five area-specific factors (population sociology, economy, health (body, mind), society, culture, information accessibility, personal) and fourth, we completed database structuring by subdividing the largely categorized category area into medium, small, and small. Finally, three experts and six older adults living alone were tested for face validity to check indicator completeness. This study structures in detail the sporadically studied solitary background data and enables screening of risk groups based on data accumulated based on them in the future, and suggested the possibility of intensive proactive prevention.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to present the applicability in Korea by translating the Safety Assessment Scale (SAS), which can evaluate various safety factors of the elderly with dementia or cognitive impairment, into Korean, and by examining the validity and reliability of the Korean version. The developer s consent was obtained to translate the SAS into Korean. The Korean version of Safety Assessment Scale (K-SAS) was completed through the procedure of translation and expert group review, and reverse translation and expert group review. Next, the content validity of K-SAS was verified for 12 occupational therapists, and internal consistency and test-retest reliability of K-SAS were verified for 30 community-dwelling elderly peoples with dementia or cognitive impairment. The Content Validity Index (CVI) of K-SAS was calculated as .93. In the case of internal consistency, Cronbach s α value for all items was calculated as .985, and Cronbach s α value for each item was calculated as .759 to .954. The test-retest reliability for the total score of K-SAS was calculated as .973 (p<.01). K-SAS is a tool that can evaluate the safety of the elderly with dementia or cognitive impairment in Korea, and through this study, a high level of validity and reliability were confirmed. In the future, we hope that K-SAS will be used when conducting an evaluation for the establishment of client-centered interventions in the community.

Abstract
This study examined the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between self-esteem and desire for knowledge and the ability to use smart devices among older adults. The present sample included 2,121 individuals (1,012 males and 1,109 females) aged 60 or older who owned smart devices, and participated in the eleventh wave of the Korean Media Panel Data in 2020. The independent variables were self-esteem and desire for knowledge, and the dependent variable was the ability to use smart devices. Gender was included as a moderating variable, and age, educational level, marital status, job status, and the number of smart devices owned were controlled for. Multiple regressions were conducted using PROCESS in IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0. Findings showed that the moderating effect of gender in the relationships between desire for knowledge and the ability to use smart devices was significant. Further analysis showed that the effects of desire for knowledge on the ability to use smart devices were stronger in elderly men than in elderly women. The results highlight that personal psychological and motivational characteristics such as self-esteem and desire for knowledge can affect the ability to use smart devices in later digital life.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the inherent meaning of temporary reemployment after retirement that the baby boomer cohort experiences. The baby boomer cohort is high in educational achievement and income when compared with other existing elderly groups. However, the baby boomer cohort tends to have a large amount of expenditure or debt. They also attribute various meanings other than economic circumstances when it comes to assessing the quality of their lives. Therefore, reemployment after retirement can have a significant impact on their lives in old age. Participants of this study were selected by a purposive sampling of two males and four females. They were individuals that had retired from stable workplaces and had reemployment experience in the city of Gwangju and in Jeollanam-do. Data were collected based on an in-depth interview. A phenomenological approach introduced by Colaizzi was used for a qualitative data analysis. As a result, four main themes that include ‘Striving for the family with pride in one’s work’, ‘Acceptance as a valuable member of society’, ‘Continued learning to lead a more productive life’, and ‘Reemployment challenge is one s second life’ were revealed. Based on these results, the implications of various social welfare policies and practices were discussed.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the causal relationship among social exclusion with subjective health status and depression in the elderly, as well as the differential effects of social exclusion on changes of subjective health status and depression between poor and non-poor elderlies. Through this, this study is to find the ways to help the elderly spend a healthy life in their old age and to suggest the ways to alleviate elderlies’ health disparities. Therefore, this study analyzed 3,033 elderlies aged 65 years or older who participated in the Korean Welfare Panel Study from 2012(7th) to 2019(14th). The analyses were mainly based on two longitudinal methods, multi-variate and multi-group latent growth model. The main results of this study were as follows. First, regarding the results of the longitudinal change of elderlies’ social exclusion, exclusion of economy, housing and social activities gradually decreased, while exclusion of social relationships remained at a certain level. Also, changes of subjective health status and depression in the elderlies progressively deteriorated. Second, as the exclusion of economy, housing, social activity and social relationship decreases significantly, increase in subjective health status and reduction in depression were shown. Third, exclusive level of social activities during the early years of old age continuously affected the entire life of an elderly which caused disparities in both subjective health status and depression level. Fourth, subjective health status disparities between poor and non-poor elderly groups steadily narrowed down as time passed. However, in the case of depression, disparity between the two groups tend to remain at constant intervals. Fifth, the impact of exclusion of social relationship changes on subjective health status and depression was different between the poor and the non-poor, especially these associations were found to be more effective in the poor elderly group. Based on these findings, this study suggested social welfare dimensional methods to alleviate social exclusion of the elderly.

Abstract
This study examined how the age-friendly environment moderates the relationship between cognitive ability and the perceived ease of use of technology, especially on the wearable robots for mobility improvement, of older adults. Accordingly, a multiple regression analysis was conducted on 277 older adults aged 65-74 years living in Korea. SPSS PROCESS Macro Model 1 was used to analyze the moderating effect, and simple slope and Johnson-Neiman methods were conducted to understand the moderating effect in depth. As a result of the moderating effect analysis, the service-side environment and the socio-cultural environment moderated the relationships between cognitive ability and perceived ease of use of technology significantly. That is, the higher the degree of the age-friendly environment in the service-side and socio-cultural environment, the less impact of cognitive ability on the ease of use of technology. Since the perceived ease of use is one of the major factors leading to actual technology use, the result of this study suggests researchers efforts and policy attempts to provide a place for technology in the elements of the age-friendly environment are needed.

Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of job satisfaction on depression and the moderation effect of self-compassion among the working elderly. An online survey was conducted from October 13 to November 3, 2021, for elderly over 55 and collected 362 data from working elderly out of 612 respondents. For analysis, hierarchical regression analysis was used to examine the moderation effect using the SPSS 25.0 program. The main results of this study are as follows. First, it was found that job satisfaction of the working elderly showed a negative effect on depression. In other words, the low job satisfaction of the working elderly leads to higher depression. Second, self-compassion showed a moderation effect in the relationship between job satisfaction and depression. It means that self-compassion regulates the negative effect of job satisfaction on depression of the working elderly. Therefore, when self-compassion is high, depression due to low job satisfaction is reduced. Based on these results, practical and policy suggestions for improving job satisfaction and depression of the working elderly and the importance of self-compassion as a positive psychological coping mechanism were suggested.
