우리는 ‘젊은 문화연구(자)’라는 모호한 기표에 관해 문화연구 영역의 젊은 주체들이 어떠한 생각을 집합적으로 구성해가고 있는지 대략적으로나마 알아보고자, 간략한 조사를 실시하였다. 다양한 전공과 연령대의 응답자 31명이 주관식 단답형 위주로 설계된 설문지에 참여하였다. 이들은 대학 내 제도의 한계로부터 경험한 결핍을 대학과 기성 제도 바깥의 학술활동에 참여함으로써 일부 해소하며‘문화연구자’로서의 정체성을 형성하고 있었다. 한편 문화연구와 관련된 다양한 전망에 있어, 응답자들은 문화연구 정치성에 대한 재인식과 아카데미 중심주의 극복 및 분과학문 중심성을 넘어선 이론과 방법론에 대한 다양한 의견과 수요를 제시했다. 응답자들의 고민은 2018년 문화연구캠프를 통해 제기 된 문화연구의 미래에 관한 질문과 궤를 같이한다. 문화연구자로서의 정체성과 존재 조건을 둘러싼 질문에 대한 반복적인 고민과 실천은, 어쩌면 이 문제의 해결을 위한 유일한 대안일 수 있다.
영어 초록
We conducted a brief survey to find out what kind of thoughts collectively constructed on the ambiguous signifier of ‘young cultural studies’. Thirty-one participants of various majors and age groups responded to the questionnaire. They experienced a deficiency from the limitations of the university, and they partially resolved this by participating in academic activities outside the university, forming their identity as cultural studies researchers. Regarding the prospects of cultural studies, the respondents presented various opinions including the re-recognition of cultural politics, overcoming academy-centrism and discipline-centricity. Repeated thinking and practice of identity and conditions of existence may be the only alternative for the renewal of cultural studies.
