서양의학의 한계 또는 대안으로 자연치유(치료)가 예방의학이나 전일적인 의학으로서 새롭게 주목받고 있다. 그러나 한국 교회에서는 아직 자연치유에 대한 이해가 부족한 실정이다. 그리스도인으로서 자연치유사의 길을 걷고 있는 필자는 ‘기독교 전통 안에서 자연치유의 근거를 제시할 수 있을까?’하고 스스로에게 질문을 던져 보았다. 이 질문에 대한 응답으로 기독교 전통 속의 인물, 빙엔의 힐데가르트(Hildegard von Bingen, 1098~1179)를 ‘기독교 자연치유사’로 논증하려는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 힐데가르트를 기독교 자연치유사로 보는 근거는 첫째, 그녀는 프란체스코의 스승으로 불릴 만큼 기독교 전통 속의 인물이라는 점이다. 둘째, 힐데가르트의 글에는 자연치유적 요소를 많이 찾아볼 수 있는데 본고에서는 힐데가르트의 자연치유적 세계관과 힐데가르트의 자연치유적 접근과 치유(음식, 식물, 보석, 사혈, 생활습관 등)에 대해 고찰하였다. 필자는 위와 같은 근거로 힐데가르트가 기독교 자연치유사라는 것을 밝히고자 하였다. 본고를 통해 ‘기독교 자연치유(사)’가 한국 교회와 사회에 확대되어, 이 땅에 하나님의 치유와 회복이 온전히 이루어지길 바란다.

Natural healing(treatment) as a limitation or an alternative of western medicine is gaining new attention as preventive medicine or holistic medicine. However, Korean churches still lack understanding of natural healing. As a Christian, I walked the path of natural healer and asked myself, ‘Can I provide a basis for natural healing in the Christian tradition?’ The purpose of this study is to argue Hildegard of Bingen(1098~1179) as Christian natural healer in response to this question. Hildegard is a Christian natural healer. First, she is a person to be called a Franciscan teacher in the Christian tradition. Second, In Hildegard s writings there are many aspects of natural healing. In this article, I examined Hildegard s world view of natural healing, and Hildegard s approach to natural healing and healing(food, plants, jewelry, phlebotomy, lifestyle, etc.). Based on the above, I tried to show that Hildegard is a Christian natural healer. Through this article, I hope that the Christian natural healing will be incorporated to Korean churches and its society and the healing and restoration of God on this earth will be fully accomplished.
