Hyundai Motor Company(HMC) had no automobile design technology in the 1970s, but it possessed a one-time assembly and production technology. However, with the success of its unique model ¡°Pony¡±, it has become a stronghold with the capacity to produce the world¡¯s fifth-generation finished car. Pony is a successful model that not only promoted HMC as well as Korea in the global market, but also analyzes the process of securing international competitiveness through technological competency and is a success model that has historical significance and implications that Korean companies can utilize in the future.
This study aims to provide some important implications for the Korean companies that need the ability to carry out large projects to become a global corporation as well as historical significance by examining the success cases of Pony in the 1970s. As a research method, I analyzed the contents of various documents, and summarized the strategies and activities in the ¡°Pony¡± project conducted at HMC.
As a result, Hyundai Motor¡¯s ¡°Pony¡± project was a large-scale overseas export-oriented project based on the entrepreneurship of Chung Ju Young. In order to be successful in companies like this project, it is necessary to plan and identify world-class strategic projects. internalization of integrated organizational capabilities, challenging spirit aimed at overseas markets, entrepreneurship and motivational leadership of management, use of policy support and persuasion of opponent respectively.
