The New Homiletic strongly argues that traditional preaching is neither attractive nor effective for contemporary listeners because it is too preachercentered with the authoritative role of preacher and too idea-centered without
reflecting any literary dimensions of the biblical text and the listening process of listeners. Therefore, the proponents of the New Homiletic have started listener-centered preaching and elevated the role of listeners as a partner in
preaching. Rather than employing traditional attempt to teach the content of the biblical text to listeners, they have focused on listeners¡¯ experience and participation in preaching. Their goal of preaching is to preach something to be
experienced with. To ensure that the sermon is experienced, they have focused on inventing various sermon forms including narrative preaching. It is true that their new homiletical attempts to overcome the limitations of traditional
preaching have had a great influence upon contemporary preaching; however, there are still limitations and disadvantages within the New Homiletic. To recognize these limitations of the New Homiletic can be a useful starting point for the appearance of a newer homiletics for the next generation.
