The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze parents¡¯ and teachers¡¯ recognition for ¡®basic research on education for gifted children supervised by public education.¡¯ focusing in public kindergarten. The survey was carried out for 108 teachers working at public kindergartens in Gyeonggi province and 107 parents of the children attending in kindergartens in Yongin. The results were as follows: First, in the overall research on ¡®the difference in recognition of education for gifted children,¡¯ it turned out that the parents had more interest in education for gifted children than the teachers did. Teachers and parents had different opinion about the elements that gifted children. Second, in ¡®the parents¡¯ and teachers¡¯ recognition of the installation and operation of educational institutions for gifted children supervised by public education,¡¯ both groups seriously recognized the problems of the absence of educational institutions for gifted children supervised by public education. Third, as a result of an analysis of the parents¡¯ group, when there was parents¡¯ education related to education for gifted children, they wanted to receive training to apply it to child development and their relationship with children, and most of them responded that they would respect their children¡¯s opinions on the participation of education for gifted children. Both the teachers¡¯ group and the parents¡¯ group responded that the full age of 5 years old would be appropriate for the training of gifted children; that twice a week would be appropriate for the activity cycle. There were different opinion between 2 groups in the number of students per one teacher, the identification method of candidates, the methods of selecting and operating educational institutions, programs. Lastly, for the opinion that education for gifted children based on public education should be activated, both groups showed high support. To sum up these findings, it is desirable for the state to pay attention to education for gifted children and to prepare legal and institutional support.
