본고는 “보스니아(Bosnia) 내전과 민중영웅의 형성 - 구비영웅서사시의 발생과 전승을 중심으로”라는 대주제로 기획된 한국연구재단 연구과제의 2차년 결과물이다. 이미 2011년 발표된 1차년 연구논문을 통해서, 1990년대 전반기의 유고슬라비아 사회주의 연방공화국 해체와 보스니아 내전 그리고 1999년에 벌어진 코소보사태를 겪으며 현지 구비서사시 가창자들에 의해 불리고 있는 현대적 구비영웅서사시의 구비전승 현상을 전반적으로 살펴보았다. 1차년 연구가 구비문학을 비롯한 민속학 연구의 기본적 출발점이라고 할 수 있는 ‘현지조사’를 통해 구비시가 전승 상황에 대해 고찰하고, 이를 토대로 구비영웅서사시 최초 발생의 배경을 탐구하는 것을 주요한 내용으로 삼았다면, 2차년 연구물인 본고에서는 현재 구전되고 있는 구(舊) 유고지역에서 채록된 구비서사시 자료들을 토대로, 이들 작품들이 19세기에 채록되어 전해지고 있는 구비영웅서사시 작품들과 ‘형식’이라는 측면에서 어떻게 같고 다른가 하는 점을 살핀다.
1차년 연구의 결과물을 통해서 현대적 구비영웅서사시가 갖는 주된‘역할’은 규명되었다고 할 수 있다. 즉, 19세기에 채록된 작품들과는 다른 새로운 내용의 구비영웅서사시 작품을 가창하는 오늘날의 가창자들은 미국으로 대표되는 서방세력이라는 주적에 맞서 자민족의 안위(安危)를 걱정하며 나아가 자민족을 보위(保衛)하려는 목적으로 구비시가를 이용하고 있다는 것이다. 다시 말하면, 자민족이 처해 있는 역사적환경에 따라 구비영웅서사시로 대표되는 구비문학을 정치적으로 이용하고 있다는 것이다. 그러한 궁극적인 목적을 위해 이들이 내세우는 것은 역사적·정치적 흐름에 맞게 새롭게 만들어진 ‘민중영웅’이다. 하지만 구 유고지역의 구비영웅서사시 작품들에서 나타나는 그러한 ‘민중영웅 만들기’ 현상은 19세기에 채록된 작품들과 그 성격을 같이한다. 범인(凡人)에 불과한 마르코 끄랄례비치(Marko Kraljević)를 초자연적인 능력을 가진 영웅으로 묘사하고 있는 구비서사시 작품들이 그러한 예라 할 수 있다. 20세기 말 특정한 작가들에 의해 만들어진 구비영웅서 사시 작품들이 가치고 있는 그러한 역사적 배경과 정치적 의도를 염두에 두고, 본고에서는 전 세계적으로 그 문학적 가치를 인정받고 있는 구 유고지역의 구비영웅서사시 작품들이 가지고 있는 형식적 측면을 오늘날의 구비영웅서사시 작품들과 비교한다.

This paper is a product of second research project that is organized under the theme titled "Bosnian Civil War and Formation of National Hero - Focused on the Genesis and Transmission of Oral Epic Poetry". We've taken a look at the first year of paper about the phenomenon of epic poetry that are produced with regard to Bosnia civil war in Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the 1990s.
In this paper, based on oral epic material that is currently being transmitted, we consider how different and same in terms of 'form' with pieces of oral epic poetry from 19th century.
Oral Literature, including the oral epic poetry, through the way of 'transmission' has the meaning of existence as the most essential literary works. For all that, literary value does not disappear by recording in a book. Merely, works of oral literature that can be transformed into the more refined in terms of content or format is likely to be blocked due to the recording for a book.
Perhaps, investigated 'formal unfinished' and 'literary imperfection' of the modernistic oral epic poetry from 1990s in the Former Yugoslavia could be come from a impatience and a hastiness of this researcher. In other words, the yugoslav modernistic oral epic poetry in this paper had insufficient time to be reborn in the form of refined and completed going through many generations and times. Nevertheless, it is necessary to pay attention to that the formal framework of the traditional yugoslav oral epic poetry gradually changes. It is possible to speculate that such a phenomenon among the yugoslav oral epic poetry is the same thing in the written literature that is progressed from the poetry with a fixed form to the free verse poetry.
