The aim of the present study is to research the styles of mind cultivation of Zhu-xi(ñ¹í) and Toe-gye(÷ÜÍ¢), in addition, to define their philosophical meaning. This study is focus on¡°Gyeong-Jae-Jam-Do¡±(Ì×î±í×) in Seong-Hak_Sip-Do(á¡ùÊä¨Óñ)edited by Toe-gye. According to Zhu-xi's Cultivation Theory, to recover peace of mind, a man who cultivate himself should control his own mind in active stage, rather than quitting his perception in quite stage. Also, the mind cultivation is not to contemplate the transcendental substance beyond the phenomenal world, but to control one's mind in daily life. In this point, mind cultivation is exercised in type of concrete body cultivation. But body cultivation must be actualized by following the Li(ÖÉ). Zhu-xi's cultivation theory is a mirror of the philosophy of Neo-Confucianism that lay weight on morality in daily life.
Toe-gye is an heir of Zhu-xi's cultivation theory. However, somebody that research on Toe-gye's philosophy often insist that Toe-gye's mind cultivation is intuitionism, quietism, and meditation etc. But Toe-gye also have criticized the tendency of intuition and meditation radically, and have emphasized on concrete efforts in daily life. In a nut shell, His mind cultivation is in the same way with Zhu-xi.
