This study aims at making the relation of Ilsim and Hwajaeng in Wonhyo Philosophy clear. First, I inquire that One Hwajaeng of ten Hwajaengs contains the other ones in the Simoonhwajaengnon by Wonhyo. It means that each One Hwajaeng has a universality but at the same time has a peculiarity. The universality and the peculiarity of each One Hwajaeng make the difference of the different things differentiate and harmonize at once. Next, in Wonhyo's commentaries on the Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana, I study that Ilsim has a kind of concept of consilience & totality but it is not the ultimate reality. Ilsim has two aspects which are an appearing & disappearing and a stillness. When an appearing & disappearing disappears appearingly in Ilsim, a stillness appears disappearingly in Ilsim. Il of Ilsim means One which cannot be called but is inevitably called. According to Wonhyo, there is no One that can be understood. Thereby there is no Sim which means mind. He explains that One can be understood misunderstandingly mysteriously, so one calls it Sim. Being understood misunderstandingly mysteriously brings up the great positiveness. Hwajaeng comes from the great positiveness.
