이 연구는 국내 대기업 근로자를 대상으로 직무만족에 대한 단일항목과 다중항목 측정치 결과를 비교 분석하고 있다. 단일항목 측정치가 다중항목보다 더 우월하거나 최소한 다중항목 측정치와 비슷한 수준의 유효성을 가지고 있다는 사실을 입증코자 하였다.
연구결과에 의하면, 직무만족에 대한 단일항목과 다중항목 측정치가 유의미한 상관관계를 보여줬고(r=.61), 결과변수인 종업원만족에 대한 설명력 측면에서 단일항목 측정치가 다중항목보다 나은 것으로 나타났다. 결국 직무만족에 대한 단일항목 측정치는 편의성 및 시간, 비용, 융통성은 물론 통계적 측면에서도 다중항목 측정치에 비해 손색이 없다는 사실이 입증되고 있다.

This study sets out to compare the results of a single versus a multiple-item measure employed to investigate the job satisfaction of employees. The purpose of the study was to ascertain the superiority or otherwise of the measures in ascertaining the overall job satisfaction of workers.
Results indicated that the single-item measure was significantly correlated with the multiple-item measures of job satisfaction (r=.61). It shows that the single-item measure of job satisfaction compared favorably to the multiple-item measures and in some cases accounted for incremental variance in overall employee satisfaction.
The conclusion, therefore, is that the single-item measure appears to be preferable to multiple-item measures of job satisfaction in that it is more efficient, is more cost-effective, and is better to measure changes in job satisfaction.
