The purpose of this study is to work out how to introduce wage peak system for the proliferation of the system that is appropriate for the management environment of enterprises in Korea, and to design a reasonable institution required with the introduction of wage peak system. The findings of study to attain the purpose are as follows:
First, it is advisable for both labor and management party to have a mutual sympathy and have a sufficient process of preliminary preparations such as system design so that it can result in a fair and smooth operation of system.
Second, the type of wage peak system we have adopted mostly at its early stage is retirement age guaranteed wage peak system. However, for such reasons as working out disparity between retirement age and beneficiary age of national pension, it is highly expected that retirement age extension or employment extension wage peak system as well as retirement age guaranteed wage peak system will be introduced.
Third, an institution to introduce wage peak system shall be designed in consideration of the followings: applicable range of employee, type of wage curve, wage refraction point, reduction rate of wage, adjustment of wage components, adjustment of duties and responsibilities, and period of employment extension etc. Especially, in case of adjusting wage for the introduction of wage peak system, basic types of wage curve include ascent-slowdown type, horizontal type, reduction type, vertical descent-ascent type, and vertical descent-horizontal type.
