  In this paper the entire articles contributed to the official journal of the English Linguistics Society of Korea (ELSOK) are first of all classified in order to provide a bird"s-eye view on the development of English historical linguistics in Korea. For this purpose, 217 articles in twenty volumes from the first publication of the journal (1995) to the recent one (2005) were collected and analysed. And then the history of research and methods of the history of English in Japan and Europe is introduced in a comprehensive but not an exhaustive manner with their long history of the research on the subject and the current state of affairs of research is meticulously reviewed. The one-hundred-year study of the history of the English language in Japan is particularly introduced here with some academic societies related to the research of the history of English and their recent activities. Lastly, some admonitions of stimulating and extending the researches of historical English language and linguistics in Korea farther afield are provisionally proposed.
