Among fundamental educations of traditional literature, the education of old poetry is insufficient. Although old poetry is one of the various genres and has outstanding works there are few works for teaching materials of Korean textbook in elementary school. Therefore, it should be preferable to chose old poetry which is able to study at the level of elementary students. In this thesis, Hang-ga is selected and on the preferential basis studied as a primary topic.
Hang-ga is various genres which is sung by people of all social grades during millennial times in Shilla Kingdoms. It is expansive song forms and points to distinctions which Korean can be developed as a language of valuable and various expressions. In case of elementary students, they could have their own self-confidence about Korean tradition literature. if they study this kind of origin of Korean pure creative literature. Hang-ga is one of the important old poetry which arouses and definites national consciousness because of realization and expression of personal and national emotions in Korean literature.
The criterion of selection for choosing Hang-ga works is the length of work and the contents of Hang-ga should be understandable for elementary students preferentially. Some difficult, wrong, religious poems or specific character portrayal for elementary students are excluded as a study topic. The education goal of the 7th curriculum of Korean language and literature can be achieved by a deep analysis of Hang-ga or rewriting of works. This thesis focused on the suitable contents with priority given to Koran literature class activity.
There are 25 works of Hang-ga in existence and HoenHoa-ga is selected as a subject of this project. The reason choosing HoenHoa-ga is a proper length of work and also not a religious and understandable content for elementary students. Therefore, HoenHoa-ga and the background tale of it could make a simple story and apply to subject of rewriting in elementary grade and in particular, this story becomes a textbook in the third chapter of 6th grade language and literature class, ¡®Speaking, Listening, Writing.¡¯
HoenHoa-ga has transmitted from two different genres, poetry and fairy tale. This poem becomes a revised story and changing from a story to poem is also possible as a proper textbook for study of Korean language and literature class in the first of the third chapter of 6th grade language and literature class, ¡®Speaking, Listening, Writing.¡¯
HoenHoa-ga includes a kind of Hang-ga and telling the background story of it awakes students¡¯ interest and has empathy easily with students. In the activity of class, students write a poem from the old poetry easily and lay emphasis on person who gives and takes the flowers in the background tale. In the evaluate course after the activity of class, there is a merit which students can estimate themselves easily based on the story.
At the first step of class, students listened to the HoenHoa-ga¡¯s background tale, tale of Sooru Booin. After that, students made effectively a text or a poem from the story. In the cases of other modern and tradition literatures, it is difficult to find have same characters in both traditional tale and old poetry. In addition to this, it is harder to find that kind of case for the elementary students. However, HoenHoa-ga among Hang-ga is adequate to make materials for teaching because old poetry like HoenHoa-ga can be connected by the background tale.
In the future, the education of old poetry should be more studied for teaching materials of Korean textbook in elementary school. A result of class activities of the old poetry reach a positive conclusion which the students were interested in the study and they did not feel difficult about it.
