This article examines the "working-person identity" of Korean women in relation to their value system developed through marriage life. For this study, life stories were taken from 15 women in their 30s and 40s, and marriage life, job history, the current job status, and the style of telling about job related stories were analyzed. The result shows that the "working-person identity" can be grouped into three categories: that is, "absent type", "emerging type" , and "mature type". Then, for each type, the perceived meaning of marriage, the interpretation of marital equality, and the patterns of spouse evaluation were examined in order to discem their particular consciousness of marital life. The analysis reveals that different types are clearly associated with differing marital consciousness and behavior. The findings also suggest the importance of identifying women's inner world in understanding women's behavior and making women related policies.
