In the light of political legitimation, Shang Yang¡¯s legalism implies on rational mechanism for sustaining the political relationship between prince and his subjects. Shang Yang¡¯s Changing-law departed from his changeable historical view. The other premise to his legalism is the view of human nature. He regarded the real man as an extreme egoist. So he proposed to convert human egoism into rational choice. Substantially Shang Yang¡¯s legalism means all-out reform program of human conscious and society. The instrument for that was ruling by law. Therefore his law sustained human rationality. Because law took reward and penalty to respond human egoism. The power of state emerged from law. Shang Yang could justify ruling by prince as ruling by law. In fact Shang Yang intended that the prince should observe the law ahead. He proclaimed that observing law was the obligation of prince and his subjects. If it build-up, we will expect the coherent relationship between prince and subject eternally. And the prince obtained the guarantee of the legal power at any cases. Shang Yang induced to obedience of subject through cognition of political obligation. Finally political essence in Shang Yang¡¯s legalism converged into the political legitimation of the prince.
