This study, by adopting action science. uncovers theories-in-use of elementary school teachers' with an attempt to reconsider teachers' professional development from lifelong education perspective. Teachers' theories-in-use can be divided into two dimensions. The one dimension concerns to exploring concepts regarding task assignment and task relations. The other dimension concerns to uncovering teachers' theories-in-use in actual task performing situations. With regard to exploring concepts for the task assignment and relations, the notions of rational. democratic, and humanistic ways of assigning tasks and notions of competence-based and cooperative system-oriented task management are underlined. For the attempt to uncover teachers' theories-in-use, action mapping which lays out values, strategy, and consequences of actions are adopted. This study, by adopting action science approach in dealing with the issues of professional development of teachers,' contributes to expanding and overcoming the current normative framework of teachers' professional development.
