The purpose of this study is to clarify an error of its existing historical research in Korean social education and to require new approach to social education by reviewing the origin of social education in Korea which has denied even the tenn of social education, with social education system's transforming to the system of lifelong education in Korea recently.
It has been said until now that Korean social education was introduced by Japan forcibly as the means to assimilate Korean through Japanese colonization(1910-1945). But, this study tried to make clear that according to those journals from various Hakhoe associations organized by its intellectual to save and to awaken their own country in the late Korean Empire (1905-1910), social education had already been introduced by intellectuals in Korea before those days. Also, I tried to clarify that Tongsok-Kyoyuk had been using as an administrative tenn in the late Korean Empire.
Even though the historical materials of Tongsok-Kyoyuk were insufficient, this study made clear that Tongsok-Kyoyuk had strong character to enlighten people in Korea. Also, This study made clear that the tenn of social education had been generally used around Korean intellectuals, and social education itself was positively introduced as the means of enlightening people in Korea and their spiritual education for the national salvation in the late Korean Empire.
As the result, this study suggests that the reargument related to Korean social education from the new angle of view after this must be done, based on the historical fact of the above Tongsok-Kyoyuk and social education.
