To verify the determinants of organizational typology, 224 Korean small and medium sized firms were analyzed. The results of the analysis are as follows.
In case of simple structure, the smaller it is and the stronger power-risk oriented top managers is, the more significant effect on organizational structure. A s to for machine bureaucracy organization, the bigger and longer the organization and the stronger power-formality oriented, the more a firm tends to have bureaucratic structure. For business unit structure, the bigger the organization and the stronger task-formality oriented, the more important effect on the organization. For Quasi-team structure, the bigger and the stronger the stronger task-risk oriented top managers, the more effect on the organization.
This study could be the first analysis of determinants of Korea small-sized integrated factors of structure-action, top managers' characteristics are the critical determinants of organizational structure, and faus for adopting new design, the time of designing value and personality of top managers' have to be taken into consideration. Because organizational size has a critical effect upon the determination and change of organizational structure, size variable should be seriously considered in SME's research.
We found that organic structure with more flexibility and adaptability could be obtained by way of CEO's innovative valued.
