This study analyzes the effect of the international propagation of UNESCO's lifelong education on Korean lifelong education from the mid-1960s to the 2000s. In particular, the study analyzes the international propagation of UNESCO's lifelong education classified into the following periods: the 1990s, 1980s, 1970s, and 2000s. It also analyzes how Korea has reflected the propagation to the education innovation by time period. The results of this study suggest two main points. Firstly, the effect of the international propagation of UNESCO on the Korean lifelong education was extremely weak until 1990. That is, it was merely at the level of introducing the concept of lifelong education of the 1970s and 1980s to Korea. Secondly, the concept of UNESCO's lifelong education was reflected directly for the first time in the new Korean education system through an education innovationplan proposed on May 30, 1995. The main effects of the concept of UNESCO's education on Korean lifelong education, implemented in the new education system became the background of the following: ¨ç establishment of the basic direction for education innovation, which aims to construct a lifelong learning society ¨è conversion from education supplier-led education innovation to consumer-led education, namely learner-driven education innovation; ¨é establishment of diverse systems for the acquisition of degrees such as a credit-banking system and class registration system; ¨ê establishment of the background for lifelong education law and the diversification of suppliers.
