Family leisure is becoming more important in current society. The functions and roles of family is changing by the structural changes of modern society. Working hours are shortening and leisure hours are lengthening. Therefore, the opportunity of family leisure is increasing.
The characteristics of modern family leisure are as follows. First, the higher the degree of holding family leisure in common, the higher the degree of satisfaction for family leisure. Second, most of family leisure is consuming activities. Thirds, family leisure is a burden to family members. Fourth, family leisure is not leisure to some family members.
The problems of modern family leisure are as follows. First, family leisure is oriented to consume. Second, most of families do not have an ideal model of family leisure. Third, most of families do not have healthy value and goal of family leisure.
This paper looks for the answer of family leisure model in the family as a practicing community. Family leisure activities as a practicing community have the following characteristics. First, family as a practicing community is based on the unified world view. Second, the fundamental goal of family as a practicing community is to recognize 'the real self.' Thirds, everyday usual lives are practicing in family as a practicing community. Fourth, joy of family as a practicing community is 'joy of Tao.'
Is it possible family as a practicing community? There are some possibilities. Parents can be teacher to children. Family can try practicing in everyday usual lives. Family has a strong relationship among members. Family has concern to the development of the cultivation of character of family members.
