This study investigates the effects of e-Learning service quality and participation on student satisfaction and academic performance in cyber university. Specifically, one major objective of this study is to explore the major factors of perceived education service quality and to find out which factors to have influence on student satisfaction and academic performance in a cyber learning environment. Another objective is to explore the participation factors and to examine the relationships between participation and student satisfaction and academic performance in cyber learning.
E-Learning service quality was manifested as three factors such as Instructor factor (Empathy), Learning Contents factor(Reliability), and Teaching Material(Tangibility, Innovation) factor which were similar ones in off-line college education. On the other hand, Learning System and Administrative and Operation factor were not found out significant unlike offline college education. Learning participation factor was composed of Learning Community factor and Interaction factor in cyber learning. Also, academic performance was measured by academic accomplishment, repeat enrollment intention, and word-of-mouth.
The following results were shown using LISREL. First, the perceived e-Learning service quality significantly affected student satisfaction and academic performance consistent with prior studies. Learning Participation did not have significant effect on student satisfaction in spite of students¡¯ active involvement. On the other hand, participation significantly affected academic performance like repeat enrollment intention through improvements in practical knowledge and skills. Finally, this paper presents several managerial implications to cope with recent problems in cyber university such as drops in new and repeat enrollment rates.
