이 연구는 부산, 경남지역에 거주하고 있는 지체장애여성들의 데이트에 관한 인식과 행동을 질적 연구방법으로 수집된 자료를 통해 분석하였다. 이 연구에 참여한 미혼 장애여성 23명중에서 반수에 달하는 11명은 데이트에 긍정적인 인식을, 12명은 부정적인 인식을 보였으며 이들의 데이트 인식과 연관된 요인은 장애에 대한 극복여부와 부모의 지지 여부, 결혼에 대한 기대 등으로 나타났다. 또한 이들의 데이트 행동은 크게 세 가지 유형으로 분류하여 분석되었는데 비장애인과의 데이트가 가장 많이 나타났다. 이들 대부분은 비교적 자신의 상황을 수용하고 다양한 사회활동에 참여하고 있었으나 전반적으로 성공적인 데이트를 지속하는 사례는 매우 적었으며 연령이 높을수록 결혼에 대한 포기와 더불어 데이트에 관심과 흥미를 상실하는 경향이었다. 그러므로 이들 장애여성에게 보다 폭넓은 만남의 기회가 주어진다면 이들은 장애와 비장애의 경계를 넘어 다양한 데이트를 경험할 수 있고 나아가 장애인에 대한 사회적 편견에 저항하는 세력화를 조성하여 궁극적으로 이를 극복하는 토대를 마련하게 될 것이다.

This study was designed to examine dating perceptions and behaviors of women with physical disability in Busan and Kyungsangnamdo areas. Twenty three unmarried women with physical disability participated in this study, using in-depth interviews, The results demonstrated that the positive perception of their disability and the positive response to disability of family were critical in establishing positive dating perceptions for women with physical disability. These women were likely to date with a man without disability as a partner and to end their relationships unsuccessfully due to their disability, If women with disability do have various opportunities of dating, they are able to get interpersonal skills and achieve a new stage of personal growth. Also they are able to get stable subjectivity as a woman in terms of transcending societal assumptions of disability-related inferiority by their collective activism.
