Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the direct and indirect effects (through working mothers’ overprotective parenting behavior) of working mothers’separation anxiety and job satisfaction on preschoolers’ separation anxiety. Methods: A total of 251 working mothers with preschool-aged children participated in this study. Mothers completed a questionnaire concerning their separation anxiety, job satisfaction, overprotective parenting behavior, and preschoolers’ separation anxiety. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVAs, partial correlations and path analysis. Results: In terms of direct effects, working mothers’ separation anxiety had a direct effect on preschoolers’ separation anxiety. However, job satisfaction did not have a direct effect on preschoolers’ separation anxiety. With respect to indirect effects, working mothers’ separation anxiety indirectly influenced preschoolers’ separation anxiety through their overprotective parenting behavior. However, mothers’ job satisfaction did not have an indirect effect on preschoolers’ separation anxiety. Conclusion/Implications: Findings from this study emphasize the importance of reducing mothers’ separation anxiety in order to prevent preschoolers’ separation anxiety.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the condition of career happiness according to personal and organizational variables of childcare teachers. Methods: For this purpose, a total of 1,035 teachers were surveyed. The validity of the career happiness survey tool was examined through previous research, expert review, and factor analysis. Results: The results of the study are as follows. The individual variables influencing career happiness of childcare teachers were mainly age, and there was a difference in the career happiness of teachers over 40 years old and teachers under 29 years old. Second, the teachers at home daycare centers showed a high level of interpersonal relationships and working hours. The teachers at workplace daycare centers have a good balance between work and life, and teachers at corporate group daycare centers have a high sense of happiness about income. The childcare teacher s career happiness was generally higher than infant teachers, and the support of the assistant teacher had an effect on the career Happiness of the teachers. Conclusion/Implications: The results suggest that separate teacher support is needed to increase the career happiness of teachers according to their age and institutional variables.

Objective: This study employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the Respected Parents & Respected Children(RPRC) parent education program developed for working mothers of dual-income families with young children. Methods: A total of 32 working mothers were randomly assigned to two groups, an intervention group (n = 16) and a control group (n = 16). Mothers in the intervention group participated in the parent education program. After the termination of the program, differences between the pretest and posttest in terms of mothers’parenting behaviors, parenting efficacy and parental role satisfaction were compared in both groups. Results: Mothers in the intervention group were significantly improved in their parenting behaviors and parenting efficacy, whereas mothers in the control group did not show any significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. However, there was no significant difference in parental role satisfaction between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion/Implications: These findings suggest that RPRC parent education program is effective in bringing about positive changes in working mothers’parenting confidence, which can be crucial for the future developmental outcomes of their children.

Objective: The goal of this study is to examine child care center teachers’awareness of parents through a metaphor analysis. Methods: Metaphorical expressions and reason-statements were collected from 276 teachers. Metaphor analysis was used through categorizing and assorting by meanings. Results: The teachers’ metaphorical image expressions of parents were analyzed by using 13 metaphorical expression words and 3 categories which included, influence on teacher’s attitudes, parent-teacher relationships, and parents’ attitudes. Metaphorical image expressions that had a high ratio were ‘a companion’ and ‘a client.’ First, child care center teachers had images of parents that parents provide courageous energy to them, and images of clients who demand service instead of being parents. Second, child care center teachers had images of parents that parents cooperate with teachers for the sake of their children. Third, child care teachers had images of parents that parents need help with their children. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests that teachers will be able to positively correct their awareness of cooperative parent-teacher relationships by reviewing their metaphorical expressions of parental images.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate grandmothers verbal and nonverbal behaviors during young grandchildren-grandmother picture book reading. Methods: Participants were fifty-two children aged 22-42 months and their grandmothers. The researcher visited participating children’s homes or child care centers and videotaped grandchildren-grandmother book reading activities. Each grandmother read two picture books for each observation. Grandmother surveys were administered after the reading activities. Parent surveys were completed by parents and were returned to the researcher. Results: First, grandmothers began reading picture books to grandchildren when children were 6 to 11-months-old or 12 to 17-months-old. They spent 5 to 10 minutes or 10 to 15 minutes at a time reading books. Second, grandmothers most frequent verbal behavior during young grandchildren-grandmother picture book reading was ‘explaining,’ followed by ‘questioning,’ and ‘providing feedback,’ in that order. Grandmothers MLU-eojeol during grandchildren-grandmother reading was 2.56. Their most frequently used nonverbal behavior was ‘pointing,’ followed by ‘gestures.’ Lastly, there was a significant difference in grandmothers verbal and nonverbal behaviors during grandchildren-grandmother reading, depending on the grandmothers’ characteristics. Conclusion/Implications: Grandmothers use various verbal and nonverbal behaviors during grandchildren-grandmother picture book reading activities, and there are significant differences in grandmothers verbal and nonverbal behaviors with grandchildren based on grandmothers characteristics.

Objective: This study examined the relationships among mothers marital satisfaction, parenting behavior, and preschoolers sleep problems. Methods: Three hundred mothers of preschoolers completed questionnaires on three research variables. Data were analyzed by correlation analyses and regression analyses. Results: First, mothers marital satisfaction was negatively related to preschoolers sleep problems. Second, mothers marital satisfaction was positively associated with warmth and reasoning, while mothers marital satisfaction was negatively associated with intrusiveness, coercion, and neglect. Third, mothers warmth and reasoning were negatively linked to preschoolers sleep problems, but mothers coercion was positively linked to preschoolers sleep problems. Lastly, mothers warmth partially mediated the relationship between mothers marital satisfaction and preschoolers sleep problems. Conclusion/Implications: This study confirmed that mothers marital satisfaction and parenting behavior had an influence on preschoolers sleep problems. These findings highlight the importance of the family context for preschoolers healthy sleeping habits.

Objective: This study examined the effects of social support and resilience on life satisfaction of child care teachers. Methods: This study was conducted by sampling 162 child care teachers who participated in job training courses in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region. Three kinds of variables, which included social support, resilience, and life satisfaction were measured. The collected data were analyzed using PASW 18.0 program for windows. Results: First, social support, resilience, and life satisfaction of the child care teachers were generally above normal. The resilience subscale showed the highest score in ‘affirmative’, followed by ‘interpersonal ability’, ‘self-control ability’. And the ‘support of colleagues’ was higher than ‘support of superior’ in the social support’s subscale. Next, there were no significant differences in social support by child care teachers background, but there were significant differences in resilience and life satisfaction of child care teachers according to their working center types and academic levels. Second, life satisfaction was positively correlated with social support, and resilience. The ‘affirmative’, ‘support of superior’ variables were factors that predicted life satisfaction. Conclusion/Implications: We suggested ways to increase the life satisfaction of child care teachers through the ‘affirmative’ and ‘support of superior’ variables.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine child care center directors personalities in different types of institutes and teaching experiences. Methods: A cluster random sampling of 236 child care center directors in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do was taken. The participants answered a set of questionnaires measuring child care center directors personalities. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA analysis, and Scheff test. Results: The results of this study were as follows. First, national and private child care center directors personalities were rated higher than family child care center directors personalities. Second, child care center directors with more than of 16 years of experience were rated higher than child care center directors with 6-10 years experience in regards to personality. Conclusion/Implications: Academic and educational systematic support is needed to cultivate the personality of the child care center director, who has to perform various roles for young children, infants, parents, staff, and the community.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the structural analysis of the relationships among principals and fellow teacher’s emotional support, teacher’s active motivation for choosing the teaching profession, self-leadership, and child care efficacy and commitment. Methods: Data were collected from 465 child care teachers and analyzed by means of structural equational modeling(SEM). Results: First, principals and fellow teacher’ emotional support was found to have a direct effect on teacher’s child care commitment, as well as an indirect effect through teacher’s self-leadership. Second, teacher’s active motivation for choosing the teaching profession was found to have a direct effect on teacher’s child care commitment, as well as an indirect effect through self-leadership and child care efficacy. Third, teacher’s self-leadership was found to have a direct effect on teacher’s child care commitment, as well as an indirect effect through child care efficacy. Fourth, teacher’s child care efficacy was to found have a direct effect on teacher’s child care commitment. Conclusion: These results suggest the need for a great deal of utility to improve teacher’s child care commitment.

Objective: The study aims to examine fathers’ parental stress and the variables effecting parental stress of fathers with infants. Methods: One hundred seventeen fathers with 0 to 2 year-olds were recruited from daycare centers in Daejeon metropolitan city. The Korean version of the Parenting Stress Index Short Form (K-PSI-SF) by Lee, Jung, Park and Kim(2008), The Korean Occupational Stress Scale-Short Form (Koss-SF) by Jang and Ko(2005), and the Revised-Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale(RKMSS) by Chung(2004) were used to measure fathers’parental stress, occupational stress, and marital satisfaction. Results: First, the most influential variable that affected father’s parental stress was their marital satisfaction. The fathers felt less parental stress when they felt higher marital satisfaction. Second, fathers felt less parental stress when their occupational environments were family friendly. Conclusion/Implications: Ways to improve mariatal satisfacation and a family friendly evironment at work should be sought out in order to lessen the parental stress of fathers raising infants.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the mediated effect of teacher-infant relationships between teacher efficacy and infant’s adjustment to child care centers. Methods: A total of 137 child care teachers that lived in Gwangju and Jeollanamdo participated in this study. They were asked to answer two survey questionnaires for two infants. The data were analyzed using analysis of frequency, Pearson s correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: The main results are as follows. First, teacher-infant relationships partially mediated the relationship between teacher efficacy and two sub-factors (prosocial behavior and day work adjustment) of adjustment in child care centers. Unlikely as it was, several sub-factors such as positive emotion, peer adaptation, and self-strength were fully mediated by teacher-infant relationships. Conclusion: The present study suggests that it is necessary to improve teacherinfant relationships with teacher efficacy in order to improve infants’ adaptation to daycare. In addition, it should be understood that the structural relationship of the influence factors is different depending on the sub-factors of the child care adjustment.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition and qualities of early childhood coding education in childcare center teachers. Methods: 158 childcare center teachers responded to 56 questions on a questionnaire extracted and revised from previous research. Frequency analysis and one-way ANOVA were applied for the data analysis. Results: Many teachers agreed that the software education policy was timely appropriate. Most of them needed the education in order to improve children’s creativity and problem solving ability, and answered that it is appropriate to start the education at age 5. Most of them recognized that small group and free choice activities, play activities linked with daily life topics and coding programs by the childcare center teachers were desirable as educational methods. Provision of educational HW/SW environment was a relatively important element for effective implementation of the education. The coding educational qualities perceived by the teachers were not high, and were related to the age of the children they were in charge of and their computer literacy. Conclusion/Implications: The recognition of childcare center teachers was relatively positive, but it is necessary to educate the teachers to improve their recognition and qualities of the education in consideration of teachers’variables.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of preschooler’s temperament on peer play activity, focusing on the mediation of mothers’social interaction parenting behaviors Methods: 1695 mothers of preschoolers completed questionnaires on children’s temperament and peer play behaviors, and mothers’parenting behaviors. Data were analyzed by regression analyses by SPSS 18.0. Results: First, preschoolers sociability exerted positive effects on good peer play behaviors(play interaction) and negative effects on the bad peer play behaviors (disruption, disconnection) and both were partially mediated by mothers’social interaction parenting behaviors. Second, preschoolers emotionality exerted negative effects on good peer play behaviors and positive effects on the bad peer play behaviors and both were partially mediated by mothers’social interaction parenting behaviors. Preschoolers activity exerted positive effects on good peer play behaviors and negative effects on the bad peer play behaviors and both were partially mediated by mothers’social interaction parenting behaviors. Conclusion/Implications: These findings provide preliminary evidence that mothers social interaction parenting behavior partially mediate the effects of preschoolers’temperament on peer play behaviors. Implications for the use of intervention targeting specific temperament have been discussed.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the influences of constructivist educational beliefs and eco-friendly teaching attitudes on early childhood teachers mathematics teaching efficacy. This study also examined the mediating effect of eco-friendly attitudes on the relationship between the other two variables. Methods: A total of 399 teachers teaching 3,4 and 5-year-olds in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Incheon participated in this study. The data were analyzed using the SPSS Win 21.0 program and the Sobel test. Results: First, mathematical teaching efficacy of early childhood teachers was significantly correlated with constructivist educational beliefs and eco-friendly teaching attitudes. Second, with teacher s career as the control variable, constructivist educational beliefs have more influence in mathematical teaching efficacy than the other variable. Third, eco-friendly teaching attitude partially mediated between the other two variables. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study imply that constructivist educational beliefs and eco-friendly teaching attitudes are important factors on mathematics teaching efficacy. It is expected that it will be used as basic data for various programs that increase constructivist educational beliefs and eco-friendly teaching attitudes.
