Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in early childhood teachers’ perceptions of the importance and institutional performance regarding young children’s rights. Methods: 171 early childhood teachers responded to the questionnaires. The data were analyzed by using the paired sample t-test and the IPA graph to identify differences in the teachers’ perceptions of the importance and performance of each right. Results: First, the teachers perceived the importance of children’s rights to be high but low in institutional performance. The main effect of teaching years on the perception appeared significant only regarding performance of the rights of protection and participation. The main effect of teacher education experiences was significant in all areas except the importance of survival rights. The results from Two-Way ANOVA showed the two variables have no interaction. Second, the second quadrant of the IPA matrix displayed the items regarding initiative and autonomy of young children. Both inexperienced- and highly-experiencedteachers, when they had teacher education, recognized that the items related to participation rights should be further improved. Conclusion/Implications: We discussed the various ways in which children’s rights should be improved and ways of improving teacher education according to teacher variables in order to promote young children’s rights.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parentteacher relationships on mothers’ parenting efficacy especially for toddlers. Methods: 225 mothers of toddlers completed questionnaires on parent-teacher relationships and parenting efficacy. This study used technical statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis in order to analyze the collected data. Results: First, there was a significant correlation between parent-teacher relationships and mothers’ parenting efficacy. Second, the parent-teacher relationships was an important factor in predicting mothers’ parenting efficacy. In particular, when a teacher and mother develop practical collaboration for caring for and educating a child, the mothers’ parenting efficacy was higher. Conclusion/Implications: These findings indicate that the parent-teacher relationship is a significant factor in order to improve the quality of parenting. The results especially support the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents and suggest that we need to find practical ways for collaborating in the field. Limitations of this study and implications for future research were discussed

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of child care teachers happiness and social support on job performance. Methods: The subjects were 380 teachers employed in child care centers and kindergartens in Gyeonggi Province. Self-report questionnaires were used to investigate teachers happiness, social support and job performance. The data were analyzed by frequency, percent, Pearson s correlation and stepwise regression with the SPSS program. Results: The results of this study were as follow. First, teachers’ job performance was positively associated with teachers happiness. The highest correlation sub-variable was purpose in life. Next were personal growth, self-acceptance, environmental mastery and autonomy. And the last was positive relationships with others. Teachers job performance was positively associated with teachers social support. The highest correlation sub-variable was evaluative support. Next were affective support and material support. And the last was informative support. Second, teachers happiness and social support affected job performance. Evaluative support, which was a sub-variable of social support, affected job satisfaction. And personal growth, purpose in life, and self-acceptance, which were sub-variables of happiness, affected job satisfaction. Conclusion: This study revealed that teacher s happiness and social support were important factors for teachers job performance.

미술의 요소와 원리에 근거한 만 2세 표준보육과정 교사용 지도서 미술활동 분석

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze how the elements and principles of fine arts were reflected in art related activities in the teacher’s manual on standard childcare curriculum for a period of 2 years. Methods: The analysis criteria for the elements of fine arts were modified and complemented based on Kim and Gang(2011) and the same was done for the principles of fine arts based on Lee et al(2015). Results: First, as a result of analyzing the art contents according to life theme in art related activities, ‘artistic expression’ appeared the most in all nine life themes. Second, as a result of analyzing the art related contents in the standard childcare curriculum for 2 years based on the elements of fine arts, plane, texture, shape, color, volume, line, spot, space, composition, light and shade appeared in order. Third, as a result of analyzing the art related contents on the principles of fine arts, movement, emphasis, variety, unity, rhythm, proportion, balance and pattern appeared in order. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this research suggest that the childcare activities have to be devoloped in order to provide the balanced experiences with fine arts activities.

어린이집 재원 다문화 가정 영아의 양육 현황과 어려움 및 지원요구

Objective: This study intended to analyze parenting characteristics, difficulties and support needs of multi-cultural families that had children under 3 years old, in order to develop their supporting resources. Methods: This study performed semi-structured interviews with 7 mothers from multi-cultural families that had their young children enrolled at child care and education centers in Gyeonggi Do. The interview data transcribed were analyzed using the successive contents analysis, and led to 4 themes and 12 sub-themes. Results: First, the mothers from multi-cultural families were married without understanding the Korean language and culture. Second, the multi-cultural mothers didn’t properly respond to their children s needs in interaction and language aspects. As a result, the multi-cultural support centers and child care and education centers gave help to them. Third, in the view of the difficulties facing mothers, parenting problems caused by the lack of information concerning child education, the biased burden of parenting, and the different parenting values of Korean families were all expressed by the mothers. Fourth, regarding support needs, providing individual professional support for children and child-raising support for mothers, customized language and employment support for mothers and parenting education for fathers and family education on multi-culturalism are needed. Conclusion/Implications: Suggestions for decreasing the difficulties facing multi-cultural families that had children under 3 years old were discussed.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to explore the moderating role of children’s verbal ability in the relation between shyness and teacher-child relationships. Methods: Participants were 200 children, their mothers, and their kindergarten teachers. Children’s shyness was rated by their mothers and teachers, and children’s verbal ability was measured using the language problem solving ability test. And teachers completed a rating scale in order to examine the teacher-child relationship. The collected data were analyzed using correlations and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results: Children’s shyness had a negative relation to close teacher-child relationships. And child’s verbal ability was significantly related to teacher-child relationships. Hierachical regression analysis indicted to the interaction of child’s shyness and verbal ability predicted close teacher-child relationships. Children’s shyness, those who demonstrated the lowest level of child’s verbal ability, was significantly associated with close teacher-child relationships. Children’s shyness had no significant relation to close teacher-child relationships, especially for the highest level of children’s verbal ability. Conclusion/Implications: We suggested that verbal ability training for children might be valuable for shy children in order to buffer the link between shyness and teacher-child relationships.
