초록보기
Purpose: This study was aimed to compare health promotion behaviors and safety consciousness for elderly women living alone in rural areas and elderly women in group homes, and then provide information for the development of safety awareness programs for elderly. Methods: The participants were 120 elderly women living alone in rural areas aged 65 or older and 120 elderly women living in group homes. The data collection was conducted during November 2020, and the collected data used the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program to verify frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, and independent t test. Results: There were significant differences of health promotion behaviors between elderly women living alone and elderly women in group homes (t=15.77, p<.001). In addition, there were significant differences of safety consciousness between elderly women living alone and elderly women in group homes (t=21.42, p<.001). Conclusion: Since the safety consciousness and health promotion behaviors of the elderly in group homes are significantly higher than that of the elderly living alone, various programs should be developed to improve the safety consciousness and health promotion behaviors in the elderly living alone. Based on local government’ acts, continuous support and attention is needed that elderly women in group homes can maintain a healthy life.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the quality of life and depression in nursing students between Korean and Cambodians. Methods: The subjects of this study were 223 students taking up a four-year nursing course in colleges located in Area A in Korea and Area B in Cambodia. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: The total score on quality of life among the Korean students was significantly higher than that of the Cambodian students (t=-4.596, p<.001), while the total score on depression was lower in the Korean students compared to that of the Cambodian students. There was a statistically significant difference in the scores (t=5.179, p<001). When the levels of depression were compared, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant - the Korean students had 92.7% normal and 7.3% mild depression, while the Cambodian students had 80.9% normal and 19.1% mild depression (x2=6.781, p=.009). As a result of analyzing the correlation between the total scores on depression and quality of life, a statistically significant correlation was found in both Korean (r=-.721, p<.001) and Cambodian (r=-.508, p<.001) students. Conclusion: Therefore, a nursing intervention that considers the cultural differences should be developed in order to improve emotional response and quality of life of cambodian students.

Purpose: This study attempted to confirm whether the suicide prevention effect could be achieved by managing the frailty of the elderly in rural areas. Methods: This study is a single-group pre-post study design. The frailty management program was applied twice a week for 12 weeks for the vulnerable elderly in the rural area from 16th April to 31st May in 2020. The program consisted of physical exercise, health education on nutrition management and disease control, cognitive training, and protein drink provision. Results: The average age of the participants was 77.1 years, and they lived alone (88.6%). As a result of providing the program, there were positive results such as increase in body strength (pre 12.27: post 13.27) and weight (pre 58.51: post 59.13), and decrease in depression (pre 4.66: post 1.20), and there was no statistically significant change in quality of life, Time Up & Go, and BMI. Conclusion: Frailty should be managed to prevent suicide in the elderly. It is necessary to expand and apply various programs that combine physical functions and emotional interventions such as health education, and exercise to maintain muscle strength.
